图书介绍:哈罗德·品特素有“沉默大师”的美誉。他声称自己的戏剧里“有两种形式的沉默。一种表现为没有言语,另一种则以‘滔滔不绝‘的话语形式出现。”“‘滔滔不绝’的话语”缘何成为沉默?另外,沉默被认为是“品特式”风格的精华所在,它在品特戏剧中究竟担当何等重任、发挥何等功能呢?为揭开这两个问题的谜底,本书首先将研究的矛头探入沉默的本质,证实沉默是人类话语交际中有机、动态、不可或缺的组成部分,并厘清沉默和言语、沉默和其他语言成份的关系。接下来,本书依照品特本人的观点、将其戏剧中的沉默分成两大类别:静默和语境沉默。为了探究沉默在品特戏剧本文中所发挥的功能和作用,它被视为一种语用行为,在两个层面的交际中发挥着重要功能:一个是剧本内部的、剧中人物之间的微观语境的交际;一个是延伸到剧本外部、涵盖社会文化语境、从作者到受众的宏观语境的交流。研究发现,在以人物言语为基础的微观交际层面中,沉默可作为认知行为,情感行为,意图行为。在以剧本为媒介的宏观话语层面上,沉默作为修辞行为,肩负着传达主题、强化戏剧性、创造诗意美的丰富功能。首先,本书纠正了对沉默仅限于无声状态的狭隘理解,其次,本书对品特沉默的研究在多个方面都做出新
